1. Go walking with dinosaurs at the Natural History Museum

Did you know almost all museums and galleries in London are free? Yep, you can wander the hallowed halls of the Imperial War Museum, Science Museum, National Portrait Gallery, The Tate Modern and many, many more without spending a penny. The Natural History Museum is particularly popular, because who doesn’t love dinosaurs? It’s also open late for adults only on the last Friday of every month.

2. Take in some street entertainment at Covent Garden

Covent Garden is a firm favorite of tourists and locals alike. A picturesque haven of shops and restaurants, many street performers also take to the cobbles to entertain the crowds. Every day, huge groups gather to watch the comedians, musicians, actors and magicians perform. A great cost-effective alternative to taking in a West End show.

3. Get up close with royalty and see the Changing of the Guards

As iconically British as it comes, The Changing of the Guards is a must do when in London. Watch the Guards outside Buckingham Palace exchange duty every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday morning. The elaborate ceremony starts at 10:45am and lasts around 45 minutes but get there early to make sure you get a good spot.

4. Grab some tasters at Borough Market

A must do for foodies, Borough Market is full of wonderful food stands selling all kinds of delicious treats. It’s notoriously expensive, but the food is top notch and very high quality. They stall holders are generous and many have tasters to give out, so it makes for a very nice afternoon activity to wander around and try out a little bit of everything.

5. Take in the view by St Paul's Cathedral

There are many great places to get a good view of London but going up The Shard and The London Eye can be pricey. A great spot in the city center for a view of the city is at the top of One New Change shopping center. Right next to St Paul’s Cathedral, it’s a lovely way to get a closer look at the famous Christopher Wren dome, and London's other famous landmarks. Parliament Hill on Hampstead Heath in Camden also gives a beautiful panoramic view over London and makes for a lovely walk.
