Your guide to England’s best seaside towns
Gaining work experience is a must for today’s college student. Find out why to intern in London.
Oh, we do like to be beside the seaside. And with thousands of miles of coastline, England has plenty of it.
From kiss-me-quick seaside promenades to candy-coloured fisherman villages and barefoot surf towns – England’s coastline is awash with beach breaks, surf breaks and if the weather doesn’t hold, wind breaks. Here are seven seaside showstoppers not to miss.
Brighton Beach
Potentially the UK’s most famous seaside town, Brighton Beach deserves a spot at the top of your to-do list. A quick one-hour commute from London, Brighton proudly waves the flag as England’s LGBTQ+ capital and is known for its diverse communities, quirky laneways and colourful cultural, music and arts scene.
Norfolk Coast
If you’re a fan of empty beaches, quaint villages and winding waterways then you’ll want to make a beeline for the Norfolk Coast. A haven for seals, the Norfolk Coast is made for daytime strolls and country pubs. Make sure you visit Holkham Hall, a grand 18th-century stately home and beachfront nature reserve.
Cornish Coast
Home to miles of soft white beaches, coloured fishing villages and fun-loving surf towns, Cornwall is home to the UK’s most stunning coastal scenery and its best surf. If you’re looking to catch a break, head to Watergate Bay and Fistral Beach close to Newquay – a surf town with a wild reputation that regularly hosts international surf competitions.
Jurassic Coast
With over 195 miles of coastline and 185 million years of history, the sweeping beaches and breathtaking geology of this stretch of coastline in southern England are a fantasy for walkers and surfers alike. Dinosaurs actually lived on England’s Jurassic Coast, and we have the bones and fossils to prove it.
Yorkshire Coast
Rolling hills, rugged coastlines and cosy pubs fill Yorkshire’s gorgeous coastline. Get lost in the jumbled alleyways of Robin Hood’s Bay, eat fish and chips on the harbour wall in Whitby, and brave the surf of Filey Beach. Either way, we can guarantee epic scenery, friendly locals and a pub on every corner. Welcome to Yorkshire!
Bournemouth
Radiating serious seaside charm, explore Bournemouth’s seven miles of award-winning golden beaches. This seaside town is filled with 2,000 acres of exotic parks and gardens, lively pubs and an activity center that has an obstacle course, climbing wall and zip line.
Portsmouth
As UK’s only island city, Portsmouth is known for its maritime heritage and historic dockyard. Explore the ancient castle, cathedral, miles of waterfront and the 170-metre-high Emirates Spinnaker Tower. With unique shopping, tasty restaurants and several museums, Portsmouth offers something for every beach goer.
