Your Base
During your time in South Africa you will be based in the lively city of Port Elizabeth, which is adjacent to Algoa Bay and it's stunning beaches, which make it a hot spot for marine life and water sports.
Where will I be living?
Located eight minutes away from the city center, you will live with other volunteers in communal accommodation, with dorm style sleeping areas.
The accommodation has a very sociable atmosphere and is a great place to relax and unwind in the evenings, with a swimming pool, ping pong table, TV / DVD room, pool table and braai area.
What's the local area like?
Port Elizabeth boasts a number of attractions to keep volunteers entertained during weekends and time off.
Addo Elephant National Park: Come face to face with the world's largest land mammal.
Beaches: Make the most out of Port Elizabeth's fantastic coast. Swim, surf, go whale watching or scuba dive around the ship wrecks and coral that life just off shore.
Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum: Immerse yourself in African art.
Mountains: Try rock climbing or go hiking in the beautiful landscapes that surround the city.
Sand boarding: Port Elizabeth boast some of the best locations for thrill-seekers to give this sport a go.
The Boardwalk: Enjoy the stores and restaurants in the liveliest part of town.
Who will I be working with on my project?
Volunteers work closely with the local permanent staff. You will also have solid support from the other sports coaching volunteers and local coached, who will be able to exchange views and knowledge on training methods and ideas that you might need. Depending on the sessions, volunteer groups can vary from 10 to 70 people at a time.
