Soweto Tour
Following a 2 day welcome session in Johannesburg, which includes hostel accommodation and information sessions that give details on the project, safety and South African customs, volunteers are all taken on 2 fantastic day trips that give them the chance to see other parts of the region.
Expedition details
Day 1
Volunteers spend the day on a guided tour of the town of Soweto, which has been home to two Nobel peace prize winners; Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu. In the evening, staff and volunteers enjoy a night on the town, which includes dinner and organized transport to and from the bar.
Day 2
Volunteers visit a city cultural village, which is rife with customs and traditions. Here, volunteers feast on local food and even learn some basic Zulu!
Accommodation during orientation
Volunteers stay at a comfortable hostel in Johannesburg, owned and run by our partner organization. Rooms are basic, with bunk beds and shared bathroom facilities. The hostel has a TV room, kitchen, internet, fax, phone, bar, and nearby amenities include bars, restaurants, cafes, cinemas, supermarkets, shops and banks.
