Making the most of Auckland
Making the most of Auckland
You’ve touched down in Auckland to start your New Zealand working holiday visa, you’ve seen both the iconic sights and local haunts during our 7-day Ultimate week, and you’ve landed your first job thanks to our work support inclusions (drinks are on you). Darn, you’re practically a local. So, what’s next? This is one for BUNAC staff member and resident Kiwi, Kate.
1. Piha
To the west of Auckland, you’ll find Piha – a black-sand surf beach famous for its rugged landscapes, rainforest walks and the stunning Kitekite Falls.
2. Mt Eden
A short walk from downtown Auckland, you’ll find Mt. Eden – the tallest volcano in Auckland. Climb to the summit for incredible 360-degree views of the city.
3. Rangitoto Island
From the tallest to the youngest, hop on the ferry and make the short trip to Rangitoto Island – home to Auckland’s youngest volcano and a popular spot for hikers and daytrippers.
4. Mission Bay
If you’re looking for a relaxing spot to soak up Auckland’s harbour views, then Mission Bay is the money shot. Just a short drive out of the city, you can sink your toes in the sand, dine on fresh seafood and head onto the water to take in the views.
5. Waiheke Island
Famous for its wineries, beaches and all-round relaxed atmosphere, Waiheke Island is just a 40-minute ferry from downtown Auckland. If you’re looking for something more energetic than picking up a wine glass, head out to explore the island by horseback.
