During your internship, free time is yours to spend as you wish – and we recommend getting out there and discovering your new home. Vietnam is a country rich with culture and history, with a complex mix of influences coming together to build diverse Vietnamese local life.

During your orientation week you’ll learn much about the history and culture of Vietnam, and throughout the programme you’ll have dedicated staff on hand to lend a hand with planning any excursions – take advantage of their insider knowledge!

Here are a few suggestions to get you started!

• Halong Bay – Arguably one of Vietnam’s most iconic traveller locations, Halong Bay runs along 120km of rugged coastline. Journey here for a sailing tour of the thousands of vegetation-topped islands reaching out of the sea towards the sky, and to sample some of the freshly caught delicious seafood that sustains the quiet fishing villages around here. This is an unmissable photo opportunity!

• Cu Chi Tunnels – The Cu Chi Tunnels were used by the Viet Cong guerrilla soldiers during the Vietnam War, and a word of warning: these rabbit warren-like passageways are not for the claustrophobic. As little as a few feet high in places, the tunnels criss-cross the ground underneath Ho Chi Minh City and really give an important sense of the brutality of the Vietnam War.

• Bustling cities – Whether you’re placed in Hanoi, Hoi An, Hue or Hai Phong, you’re sure to find bags of things to do across Vietnam’s major cities. Check out ancient temples, soak up some culture with dance and live puppetry shows and dance all night in clubs… and much, much more.

• Hoi An – This peaceful fishing village has become something of a tourist attraction in recent years, situated in a beautiful location on the coast of the South Vietnam Sea. Hoi An has a totally charming Old Town, and its unique canal network has earned it comparisons to Venice.

• Sa Pa Terraces – Rice makes up much of Vietnam’s economic output, and a visit to Sa Pa is a great way to discover how local people make their living (not to mention the iconic views you'll see).

• Mui Ne Dunes – The coastal resort of Mui Ne attracts beach bums and adrenaline junkies from far and wide. When you’re done relaxing, surfing and windsurfing, head out to the sweeping sand dunes for some of the best views and sunsets going.
